  • Write HL7 v2 to Excel?

Hi, I'm very new to Mirth and I would really appreciate some help.

Is there anyway I can generate Excel files from the HL7 v2.* messages I receive?

I am currently converting them into XML and then opening the XML files in Excel, I was just wondering if there was a more direct method. Could I use the built in JavaScript or db functionality to do it?

    Thank you all in advance!

    Hi Dimitri,
one solution could be to use a transformer with the "Delimited Text" as output data type, in order to map your message information inside a CSV file for example.
I 've never had the need to map HL7 message information to Excel, so I don't know if there is a better way to do this.
    Regards
    Alessandro

I prefer to do this programmatically in javascript using File.Util, but alot of people don't like to do things in javascript.

After setting your outbound datatype to Delimited Text and setting the properties appropriately, set up your destination.

If you set an outbound template in your transformer, you can use message builder transformers by clicking and dragging the node from your outbound template to the corresponding node in your inbound template.

Mirth will automatically map them for you.

        Use JExcel API via Javascript

I would use the JExcel API via Javascript to write proper Excel 2003 files. This forum thread explains how to use Excel as a data source. The same methods for loading the library, etc. would be used for writing a file.

If you read through this thread Excel As Data Source you will see where writing to Excel files is also covered.

Marmanold, you just beat me! BTW I work in Franklin also.

Thank you for the reply Bostad, but there's a lot I don't understand here. Like I said, I'm just getting started with Mirth. Could you explain or point me to an explanation about inbound/outbound templates and nodes? Thanks!
