  • Newbie getting started

I'm trying to follow the getting started guide and am stuck.

I pasted my test hl7 message ( into the message template ) which was sent to me via Labcorp

but when I click on the HL7 Tree tab, I get "Encoding not supported ... " error message.

    Re: Newbie getting started

Your HL7 message doesn't seem correct to me ... please verify MSH-9 ... should be "ORU^R01" instead of "ORU".

I haven't tested if this solves the issue in Mirth...

      Re: Newbie getting started

I manually altered the MSH-9 to this with no change.
All my HL7 results from other sources are just "ORU" as well.

I also removed the line wrap in the last line.

Graham - are you using Mirth 1.1 or 1.2? We've relaxed the line encoding parsing for the HL7 Tree Viewer in 1.2. This MIGHT be your issue, however nico is also correct - we can not process a message without the proper type.

All hope is not lost however. You can manually modify this for the HL7 tree viewer and you can also create a short preprocessor script that corrects the message before Mirth attempts to decode it. (1.2 only).

          Re: Newbie getting started

Looks like the problem was there were some hidden characters added by Word when I was sent the test message.

Other messages I have tried work.

          Thanks.
