  • please explain mirth channels

I like to understand how mirth channels work.

I want understand the flow of messages thru the mirth engine.

I want understand what happens to an hl7 message as it received by the channel, converted to xml, filtered, transformed, and sent out destination.

I assume the hl7 message is received the channel, parsed and converted into an a xml string and stored in the msg object. Then it goes into source filter, and then it goes into the source transformer and out to the destination. At the destination tab it also goes thru the destination filter and destination transformer, and then changed to hl7 syntax and sent out to the destination.

I also would like to understand,
    what is ${message.encodedData} ?
    What is ${message.transformedData} ?
    What is ${message.rawData} ?

Also is there a documentation to explain the mirth engine?
